Welcome to Language Arts!
Leslie Kocian and Julie Roth
7th and 8th Grade Language Arts
Tutoring Schedule: If we are not in our room, we are in a meeting; we will return as promptly as possible. We will be on duty every Thursday morning and afternoon.
Everything stated in class supercedes this website.
******************************************************** Late Policy
- Daily work is not accepted late. Work is considered late if it is not turned in when the teacher asks for it in class.
- Quizzes and tests must either be taken prior to an absence or on the first date of return from an absence unless (under special circumstances of extended absence) special arrangements are made with the teacher.
- Major assignments will be accepted late under the following guidelines:
- All major projects are due on the Monday of the assigned week. Projects will be accepted without penalty through Friday of the same week. Should a project be turned in after Friday of the week it is due, 10 points will be subtracted for each day late - down to the grade of a zero. This would include a student being absent on the Friday at the end of the week the project was due, whether or not the absence is excused or unexcused.

October 20, 2008 Parents and Students, We wanted to let you know that we are about to begin the state mandated fluency testing for all students who earned 74% or below on either or both of the last two Reading TAKS tests. This is a part of the SSI (Student Success Initiative) that the state began, and which you've been experiencing
since the 3rd grade. While there is nothing new and nothing has changed with this testing procedure, we did want to let you know that we will be following the state requirements and testing students in the next couple of weeks. As usual, you will receive an SSI Progress Report in early November (if your child scored 74% or below on either or both of the last two Reading TAKS tests). This Progress Report will include the fluency testing information and an update on your child's progress in building the necessary skills to be successful on the Reading TAKS Test. We will continue to work with your child on a daily basis to build the necessary confidence and skills to be successful on the state test and in their future educational endeavors.
